The Buddha Birthday Festival was on again this year, bigger and better with a large and curious crowd in attendance thanks to fantastic weather and a fabulous location in Perth City’s Supreme Court Gardens.
The Buddha Light International Association of WA celebrated Buddha Birthday in Perth City Supreme Court Gardens over the weekend 13 and 14th of April. The weather was brilliant, unlike the weekend before which was pouring with rain. A great location for this event, with city buildings towering over head, even the much critisiced Bell Tower looked good. Being a free event, many people dropped in whilst walking along Barrack street from Barrack Street jetty and Leonardo da Vinci exhibit.

Spectacular views of city buildings

That Bell Tower…again!

Chanting ceremony. Sutras are used during chanting, it’s also a form of meditation and way to cultivate wisdom or respect.

“It’s easy to wash away physical dirt but it’s much more difficult to cleanse one’s ‘inner dirt’ of greed, anger and ignorance.”
As expected there was large number of people from Perth’s asian community here and as a result, came many food stalls serving a variety of delicious food. Yum Yum

Dear Jeff
We are truly pleased with the turnout this year due to the brilliant weather and public awareness over the years as more and more people visit the event. Thank you for posting it on your website with those lovely photos. It will certainly add to the publicity exercise for next year. We have worked really hard the past 6 months organising and preparing for the event, sacrificing much of our personal and family time on weekends. But, seeing people from diverse backgrounds coming together to enjoy the festivities and having a fun day out, it makes it all so very worhwhile.
We hope you and other visitors to the event have brought something back with you – the loving kindness and compassion of Buddha.
Thank you for being part of this celebration and sharing the joyous occasion with us. See you at the next Buddha’s Birth Day Festival, Supreme Court Gardens, Sat 18th & Sun 19th April 2009!
